Last year I discovered an online forum dedicated to Regency romance and the literature of the Regency era. It is called, fittingly enough, Regency Romance and Regency Literature. There are a few online forums for the discussion and review of romance novels in general, but this is the only forum I have found with the focus strictly on the Regency era.
What I like about the Regency Romance and Regency Literature forum …
On of the things I most like about this forum is that there are sections for discussing Regency romance novels and the discussion of literature actually written during the Regency era. There is also a section for book reviews and interestingly, a section for posting cover art from Regency novels. In addtion, as is de rigueur in many forums, there is a section where new members can post an introduction.
The postings in the General Regency Romance section are wide-ranging and cover many interesting topics. People have posted about how they first became interested in Regency romance novels, and a discussion of what qualifies a novel as a Regency. Others have posted comments about their favorite authors and their backgrounds. There is also a thread on how to buy the older Regency romance novels.
In the Regency Era Literature section there are postings about books which were written during the Regency, This forum is still growing and there are not a lot of members, so this section is a bit thin, but it certainly has promise, offering a place to discuss literature which might have been read by the characters in our favorite Regency romance novels. I must admit that I have not had a chance to spend much time here, but I do hope to do so in the future.
There is, of course, a section for posting reviews of Regency novels which members have read. I have found the reviews to be honest, thoughtful and informative. They have helped me to decide if I want to go to the effort of seeking out and purchasing some of these titles. Within this section there is a sub-section were members have posted cover art to some of the older Regency novels.
As with many forums, there is a section where new members can post an introduction. As I noted above, this forum does not yet have a lot of members. However, the majority of the forum members are courteous and respectful of other members. I have visited any number of forums where a small clique is in control, responding to new members rudely, if not with an outright flame. That is not the case in this forum, which I find quite refreshing. It is a welcoming environment where those who enjoy Regency romance or who are interested in the literature of the period can discuss them in a thoughtful and civilized manner. The more knowledgeable and experienced members are always willing to help those new to the Regency genre with what ever questions they might have.
If you are seeking a place where you can enjoy discussions about both Regency romance novels and the literature of the period, stop by the Regency Romance and Regency Literature forum. It can be found at http://www.regencyromanceforum.com/index.php.
